Ham Radio - Communications |
All SAR members are encouraged to become licensed HAM operators. HAM radio may be our primary means of communications during a search, and is a vital resource in case of major disasters, when it could be the only link to civilization for people in outlying areas. In the rugged terrain of Mendocino County, searchers can stay in touch even without cell phones.
Members who can afford to purchase their own ham handhelds improve SAR readiness, and also help decrease the financial burden on the organization.
Watch for training bulletins to sign-up for a class, and get your license.
